MIZUOCHI Kei
Born: 1950, in Hokkaido Medium: Silkscreen
Mr. Mizuochi was raised on the northern island of Hokkaido. As a young man he moved to the Tokyo area to pursue his artistic studies at the Setagaya Print Workshop. Upon graduation, the artist traveled throughout Europe visiting museums and other art centers. There he became even more convinced of his desire to pursue a life of printmaking.
Although he had studied a variety of techniques while a student, silkscreen has became his favorite medium. His prints are characterized by rich use of color and a whimsical design. Frequently he will use a combination of both glossy and matte inks with silver leaf. This provides a depth not always associated with this medium The viewer will often find a moon in his artwork. Mr. Mizuochi associates moonlight with tranquility and timelessness.
