Joe writes about this painting--"Japanese tea ceremony culture has always had an appreciation for the austere simplicity of Korean slip glaze ceramics (among other Korean ceramic types). The inclusion of such pieces into Japanese tea ceremony collections goes back hundreds of years (in fact, many Korean ceramics in US museum collections today originally came from older Japanese collections). "Infinity Bowl" was inspired by a 16th century Korean tea bowl which caught my eye because of it being an outstanding example of the brushstroke slip glaze style. Viewed from a side angle, the ribbon of slip, made in a single pass around the bowl seems to endlessly wrap around both the outside and in the side of the bowl. This reminded me of a Moebius strip and also the "infinity" symbol...thus my title.
