Mark Goudy came to ceramics late in life following varied careers as a musician, chemistry lab technician, and 20 years working as a digital chip design engineer in the computer graphics industry (Pixar, Silicon Graphics, nVidia.) It started with a raku class, an homage to his recently deceased mother who was a lifelong potter. After many years working in the virtual world of digital hardware design, he found working with clay to be a cathartic experience - resonating at some deep unconscious level.

Mark's work merges his engineering and artistic sensibilities, the culmination of a lifetime of divergent experiences. His approach to ceramics stems from the intersection of a love of the geometries of nature and abstract minimalist art. Mark sees his mission as an artist to first create a coherent visual language, and then learn to speak in that language. "Certain forms evoke a sense of quiet stillness and mystery, and exist in a dimension apart from language. I don't fully understand it."

His educational background is mostly in the sciences, holding a Bachelor Degree in Biology and a Masters in Electrical Engineering, and has exhibited his ceramic work internationally.

Mark's other passions are wilderness adventuring and international travel. He has journeyed to over 60 countries around the globe, and finds the exposure to other cultures and environments mind expanding and an unparalleled resource for new ideas.
